Arheološka topografija otoka Raba

The Archaeological Topography of the Island of Rab project has been running since 2013, when it was launched on the initiative of the Institute of Archaeology in cooperation with the Conservation Department in Rijeka. The Lopar Cultural Centre has been involved in this project from its launch, as the first pilot campaign of the project was conducted in Lopar and provided exceptional new insights. As early as 2014, the Municipality of Lopar hosted the exhibition Archaeological Topography: A Journey through the Past of Lopar, which then, in a modified format, served as the basis for a summer open-air exhibition on the Gornji Mel promenade.

After Polish archaeologists from the Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński University in Warsaw joined the project, and with the constant support of the local community and the Lopar Cultural Centre, research in the Lopar area intensified, and with it the activities of showing the results to a wider audience, primarily through the Rab Archaeological (T)races project. In addition, the results of previous research have been presented through a series of lectures on the island of Rab and beyond, published in several scientific and professional papers in Croatia and abroad, and are regularly covered in various print and electronic media.

New research projects of the archaeological team planned for the coming period under the guidance of Ana Konestra, PhD, and Fabian Welc, PhD hab., will certainly provide further interesting discoveries. There will therefore be no shortage of opportunities for new lectures, exhibitions and various other activities in which the Lopar Cultural Centre will actively participate alongside the archaeologists.
